Shield
The services of the former organizations are indicated as such. Gold and black are the colors of the Tank Destroyer Forces. The functions of the organization are illustrated by the fabled heraldic panther with disjointed head, symbolizing the destruction wrought by the organization to all opposition. The flames of fire denote the zeal by which the personnel perform their duties. The motto is expressive of the means by which objectives are achieved.

The crest is that of the Utah Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion on 27 February 1943. It was redesignated for the 653d Field Artillery Observation Battalion on 18 May 1951. It was redesignated for the 140th Artillery Regiment on 27 April 1961. It was amended to correct the translation of the motto on 22 April 1968. The insignia was redesignated for the 140th Field Artillery Regiment on 14 July 1972. It was redesignated with blazon and symbolism revised for the 140th Utah Regiment on 10 December 1997. It was redesignated for the 640th Regiment on 19 October 2000.
